Ms. Justice Aileen Donnely

Fellows Advisory Council Member

Ms. Justice Aileen Donnelly was appointed to the High Court of Ireland in 2014 and the Court of Appeal of Ireland in 2019. She was educated at University College Dublin (Bachelor Degree in Law and Masters in Equality Studies) and the King’s Inns, Dublin (Degree of Barrister-at-Law). For over 25 years she was a practicing barrister; from 1988 as a Junior Counsel and, from 2004, as a Senior Counsel. While at the bar, she practiced mainly in criminal law, extradition law, judicial review and constitutional law. She has published on topics including law and gender and revenue investigations/prosecutions. Aileen was a Board Member and Co-Chair of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties from 1996 to 2002 and a Board Member of the ILF from 2010 to 2018. Aileen was an ILF International Fellow in Nepal in 2009 and 2010.
