Nicolás Laino
Director
Nicolás Laino is an Argentinian lawyer and human rights advocate with expertise in criminal justice and access to legal aid. He is an independent consultant who has supported UN missions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. As a member of the ILF’s Board, he has mentored and trained defense attorneys worldwide. A former Federal Public Defender in Argentina, he specialized in criminal defense, led a multidisciplinary unit providing legal aid and support to victims of torture and their families, and litigated cases before the Inter-American and UN human rights bodies. Beyond his institutional roles, he has long collaborated with grassroots civil society organizations. He holds a Master’s in Criminal Justice Systems from the University of Barcelona and teaches at universities in Argentina and abroad; having authored numerous publications in specialized legal journals on his areas of expertise
